Like a kid in the candy store
Yesterday (yes, I'm late again typing) was a wonderfully relaxing and chill day at the cabin and in Estes Park. We took our time getting up in the morning and getting around. It was nice after having to be out of the hotel at a specific time to have a laid back morning. We did make our way down to Estes Park for a little town tour/gift shopping/lunch. Tom chauffered us down in two groups because that was faster and made more sense than going to get the camper for the short distance. I think we'll use that plan for local trips and just pick up the camper for RMNP trips (like today). Sophie loved shopping (go figure) and Max found a toy store to spend his $10 from Nana. However, I think both kids were most excited about the candy store with its mix of old and new candy. Max picked gummi bears, worms, and Swedish fish and Sophie had a mixed bucket of assorted wrapped candies.
Lunch got mixed reviews from the crowd, it was some Chicago style eatery. After lunch and a little more shopping/river walking, we made our way back to the car. On the way down the kids and I stayed at the cabin for the second trip but on the way back I stayed in town with Sophie and Caitlyn (the two shoparoos) for the return trip. On the first trip Tom took a little bit of a detour and ended up finding an elk herd in a neighborhood. We tried to find them on the second trip but without luck.
Back at the cabin it was hot tub time for the kids...and the grown ups. Hanging out on the deck and looking at the mountains was enough excitement for the evening. Dinner was hot dogs on the grill and it was a great end to a very nice relaxing day. Still looks a little smokey today (moreso yesterday) but hoping that things will clear up tomorrow. Plan for today is Alluvial Fan - I hope it's as captivating for the kids as last time. Going to also look to see what else we should do in the area to make the most of our time outside. Also want to grab Max a Junior Ranger book, go out to lunch, and will be back at the cabin for dinner. I believe we also need to stop at the grocery store today.
Really looking forward to another Rocky Mountain day!
